My cousin, Johnny, living next door, was generous enough to let me play his Xbox Series X on the weekends. My best friend, Cali, invited me over for a movie night just before New Year’s. These two instances played a major role in influencing my decision to shop for one of them in the future.

Both Xbox Series X and Sony PS5 delivered powerful and excellent gameplay experiences. The breezy, fast speed and outstanding response by these ray tracing and frame rate revolutionizing consoles lit up the movie night for me. 

As a gaming enthusiast, my experience has been sky-high since the first time I got my hands on these latest Xbox and PS5 consoles. I also thoroughly enjoyed researching and reading reviews after my experience with Johnny and Cali. So, let’s get started with my review on performance, sound quality, and more. 

Price Point

The price of Sony Playstation PS5 and the Microsoft Xbox Series X are not miles apart. Both the consoles are priced at $499. Movie buffs and gaming enthusiasts can also save themselves some money by shopping for the PS5 Digital Edition-$449 or Xbox Series S priced at $299. 

Predecessors

I found the PS5 Digital and PS5 quite identical. I really enjoyed the 4K Blue-Ray physical disk drive. I was disappointed to find out the PS5 Digital Edition does not have the Blu-Ray disk drive.

I also researched about Xbox Series S and Xbox Series X online. Their hardware did not have many things alike. The PS5 models are Slim versions. 

I enjoyed a satisfactory binge-watching experience on the slim version of PS5 at my friends’ place. The Fat versions of PS5 are not available for shopping anymore. 

Controllers

The PS5 Dual Sense controllers make the gameplay and movie-watching experience a complete dose of entertainment for me. I cannot go a day without playing fighting games, and the controller does not leave my expectations aside. I can do sweeping actions conveniently with the tech-enabled 3D audio controller. 

Compared to PS5 Dual Sense controllers, the Xbox controllers are easy to grip. Xbox X controllers are ergonomically advanced. They responded to my commands really well. 

Specs

The PS5 console clocked 3.5GHz, and the Xbox Series X clocked 3.8GHz. The AMD graphic processors of the PS5 and Xbox consoles offer a powerful user experience. 

Sony has offered the PS5 a 825GB storage. The integration and designs of PS5 internal storage compared to Xbox Series X, makes the former worth exploring. The latest ‘Slim’ PS5 model even offers 1TB storage. The upgraded storage space is a big reason why enthusiasts want to invest in the PS5. A transformative movie watching experience awaits all the prospective PS5 owners. 

The graphics and console technology of PS5 is far beyond the Xbox Series X. However, I was disappointed to find out that Xbox Series X supports Dolby Vision Gaming and PS5 does not. A 4K/60Hz presentation of the Sony Playstation PS5 is another notable spec. 

Picture Quality and Sound

The picture quality on PS5 showed crisp graphical visuals. I personally enjoyed the sound quality, i.e., the Dolby Atmos soundtracks on the PS5 a lot. The clear and muscular sound effects enthralled me in the first instance. 

The Xbox Series X also offers reasonable clarity making the user experience drool-worthy. But PS5 does not support Dolby Vision and the Xbox Series X does. I enjoyed a better Blu-Ray player experience on the PS5. However, the video streaming experience of Xbox Series X was no less phenomenal.

I found the PS5 offers better exclusives compared to the Xbox. The competitively priced subscription plans of Xbox Series X make it an impressive option over exclusives. 

The Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024 makes the Xbox Series X unique. The Xbox Game Pass subscription is another notable aspect for gaming enthusiasts out there. Gaming enthusiasts can get an Xbox Game Pass and they will never have to buy a game again.

I always wanted to buy something that made playing new games fun and seamless. So, after researching everything, I decided to put my trust in the PS5. The stellar performance reviews played a significant role in my decision to purchase the Sony PlayStation PS5. The native HDR and 4K features also add to PS5’s appeal. PS5 also made the winning choice for me because of its game-changing haptics. The new 3D audio engine and resolution have me in awe. It also performs fairly well as a gaming alternative and a Blu-ray player.
