Air Japan

My family spends most of the time in Japan at the end of each year. We have been doing this for a while now. We usually fly with Japan Airlines overnight to Haneda Airport for this annual trip.

Before the pandemic, the price of this flight was between 800-900 SGD per person. Although, interest in overtaking Japan, particularly from Singapore, increased to all-time highs after the country lifted its pandemic in 2023.

I hope you enjoy this Air Japan review (Singapore → Japan), which is a part of the Travel Report and includes my experiences with hotels, lounges, and airlines during my trip to Singapore.

Air Japan Boarding Experience

On schedule, the Air Japan flight took off, though the boarding process was unusually slow.

Only one person was handling document checks. First to board were Rows 1–9 for Air Japan. The boarding procedure went smoothly.

However, boarding was delayed for about ten minutes without any explanation. Things then picked up speed when they opened a second boarding queue.

Wi-Fi and Meal Service on Air Japan

My meal that I had ordered arrived twenty minutes into the flight. I was given cutlery and a bottle of water with my meal. Additionally, Air Japan provides Wi-Fi, with the following rates:

  • Thirty minutes for $7
  • Three hours for $17
  • The total cost of the flight (marketed as 24 hours) is $20.95.

The food? A basic sandwich. Surprisingly, despite its dry appearance, it was flavourful, moist and tender. It’s one of the best sandwiches I’ve ever had on an airplane!

Menu for Food and Drinks in Flight

Yes, I can get meals, snacks, and drinks while flying. I have two options for ordering: through their web app or by scanning a QR code on board.

About one to one and a half hours after take-off, the in-flight menu becomes accessible. I must admit that the menu really impressed me. The prices were reasonable.

The rate of a 500ml bottle of water is ¥250 ($2), which is close to what you would find in Japanese and Singaporean convenience stores.

Toilet Inspection

After finishing my sandwich, it was time to check out the infamous Air Japan. The cabin’s cleanliness carried over into the immaculate restrooms. I was also impressed by the ample legroom, which was superior to that of most legacy airlines. Air Japan really shines at passenger comfort for a low-cost carrier.

In-flight Entertainment and Shopping

A few items, like blankets, sanitary napkins, and neck pillows, are available for purchase on board. The web app provides access to entertainment, just like the in-flight menu does. However, you must access them from your device, so if you need an additional screen to watch the films, bring an iPad or tablet. And, you must bring headphones or earphones for audio.

Air Japan Airlines’ Seat

The seats chosen by Japan Airline have always appealed to me because they complement the airline’s minimalist aesthetic. Everything about the class on Japan Airline was excellent, from the colour scheme to the cabin layout to the mood lighting.

Since Seat 1A is so close to an intimate private suite, it provided the highest level of privacy for this trip. But because of this, the seat is very private, and I was lucky to find one near the departure date.

Japan Airlines boasts some of the world’s greatest in-flight dining experiences, even outperforming competitors like Singapore Airlines, Emirates, and the newcomer Starlux Airlines.

Air Japan Review: Conclusion

I would like to share my last thoughts about Air Japan. I was nicely surprised by Air Japan. This airline is among the better low-cost carriers because of its best new seats, generous legroom, hygienic cabins, delicious meals, and a friendly crew. I heartily recommend them!

I would gladly fly with Air Japan again because, honestly, I really can’t find anything wrong with them. Both their hard and soft products are still excellent. Everything about the Japanese environment and culture, from boarding to flying and landing in Singapore, was extremely authentic.

The dining experience was excellent and delicious. I would say that this trip is among the best flight redemptions I have made in the last few years of flying, especially since it only cost me an additional 10,000 AA miles!
